Understanding Bell's Palsy: Symptoms and Causes

Bell's Palsy is a neurological disorder that results in the sudden onset of facial paralysis or weakness, primarily affecting one side of the face. Symptoms can vary from mild weakness to complete paralysis and include drooping of the mouth, inability to close the eye on the affected side, decreased ability to make facial expressions, and, in some cases, pain around the jaw or behind the ear.

Other signs may include altered taste sensation, increased sensitivity to sound, and dry eye or mouth. The exact cause of Bell's Palsy is unknown, but it is often linked to viral infections that cause inflammation of the facial nerve. Factors such as diabetes, pregnancy, and a family history of the condition may increase the risk. Early diagnosis and understanding of these symptoms are crucial for effective management and recovery.
